The regional town of Höfn is located in the south-east of Iceland, at the base of Europe‘s lagest glacier, Vatnajökull. Tourism, agriculture and fish industry are major economic sectors in the community. The area enjoys one of the island’s most fabulous panoramas, with its numerous glacier outlets, black sand beaches and high mountains, including the highest peak in Iceland, Hvannadalshnúkur. The Glacier Exhibition in Höfn is worth a visit, it also houses the information centre for the area. Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon is one of the main attractions, where large icebergs break off from the glacier, melting slowly as they drift towards the sea nearby. Boat tours on the lagoon are ideal to observe the colour changes in the ice and the amazing sculptures of nature.
